Sled Cat
You’ve heard of Sled Dogs – How about a Sled Cat?!
Last night we returned to Discovery Park Broome after 9 days away. We stopped at the camp of our friends Ying and Annika (site 156). Antigone decided to stay with them while I cooked our dinner at our site 200m away (site 176). When dinner was ready, I rang and asked Antigone if she wanted to come to our caravan to eat or if she wanted me to bring the food to her where she was. Ying, Annika and Antigone were having a nice time, so they asked me to bring our dinner there. I realized that Antigone might miss Peppa, so I brought Peppa with me. I wheeled Peppa in her bag on Antigone’s walker and carried our dinner in a bag on my shoulder (red arrow below).
Ying had also missed Peppa during our 9 days away. While we ate our dinner, Ying and Peppa had a lovely time together exploring their site, which Peppa had not previously explored.
When it was time to head back to our caravan, we attached Peppa’s lead (about 3m long) to the bag at the front of Antigone’s walker. Peppa immediately took off in the direction of our camp site 200m away (although not along the road I had used when walking her to Ying and Annika’s site). Along the way Peppa was keen to stop and explore our previous campsite where we’d spent our first month in Broome (site 159), which of course we discouraged as it was now occupied by others.
Peppa’s enthusiasm to go west helped pull Antigone’s walker along, like a sled dog with a sled. At one stage Antigone stopped briefly and let go of the walker. Peppa and the walker continued west leaving Antigone behind. After a brief stop at the toilet block, Peppa once again high-tailed it west to our site. She enthusiastically pulled Antigone for the whole 200m! (yellow arrow on map above). And with a lead attached to her collar.
Post-script: Today we bought her a harness. Pulling with just a collar can’t be good for her. And having her lead attached to her back will also likely reduce the frequency of the lead getting caught around her legs.
Wow you are having fun and look so happy – all 3 of you!
